Herding

Breeds developed to gather, move, and manage livestock with close human direction.

Why this group exists

Herding breeds were shaped for teamwork—reading movement, responding fast, and staying focused around animals much larger than themselves. Some were built to gather and steer from the edges, others to drive from behind, but the common thread is that “working partnership” style. Even today, many of these dogs feel most satisfied when they have a job, a routine, and something to organize.
